Why I decided to romance a startup?

join a startup

“I think the biggest innovations of the 21st century will be at the intersection of biology and technology. A new era is beginning..” -Steve Jobs.

Spending close to a decade and a half on the ringside of the ocean of limitless possibilities that is the Indian healthcare scene had on me towards the end, the effect of wading into a Star wars show in 3D. Just like Neo sees through the patterns in the make believe world of the Matrix’s hunky dory, you start seeing incremental small patterns whizzing past you, of what could be those solutions that will be the panacea and fulfil the end goal for us, of enabling healthcare access to all… be it

  • Technology in the form of Information systems driving better decisions
  • Advances in clinical care like evidence-based medicine
  • Innovations in healthcare delivery through PPP
  • Step-function changes in the traditional care process like Telemedicine.

While the Corporate setting allowed me to channel ideas in solutions we took to our clients and the way we helped healthcare service providers tackle opportunities, the turf came with its own limitations. You’ve got to put yourself on the line if you want to put your ideas to the test else the world will be poorer for it. Startups are basically that. You can start something quickly, stay simple, be nimble, work hard, stay sincere to your core purpose and execute diligently.

Start ⇒ Design⇒ Do ⇒ Fail ⇒ Learn ⇒ Iterate⇒ Start again

Away from the corporate perch, being small is a big change but brings degrees of flexibility unthinkable erstwhile. What we’ve been able to achieve at eKincare in a short span of 6 months, and how we go about responding to customer needs everyday is proof enough. We keep our ears close to the ground and test and validate a new feature before we spend time coding it.

To the average healthcare consumer in India, a powerful Health Records platform that is at once simple, stable and a powerful healthcare recommendation engine is just the right thing at the right time given the pervasion of smart devices and the increasing health awareness and consumerism. Ubiquity, personal health analytics, beautiful user experience have rarely been strengths of the same app. eKincare’s ability to stay dynamic, learn from our users’ needs and leverage the powerful platform to deliver more makes most conversations easy with customers, once they use the platform hands-on.

“The solution to make it easy to manage one’s healthcare information is a need whose time has come. The only way we will solve the Indian Healthcare challenge… is through Healthcare Innovation.

The rate of incremental change being brought in by startups across the Healthcare domain in India is proof enough of the important place we will have in the overall ecosystem.” – Dinesh
